my bloody lunitic costume

Post by icyuod2 » Mon Oct 26, 2009 11:35 am

let me start by saying i love halloween.
this year i'm helping host a halloween buck and doe (jack and jill) for my best friends trevor and laura.

i got pinned making quite a few costumes, and have lots of responsiblities as far as the buck and doe. throw into the mix a couple friend i have to help move on the 30th and a busy work schedual, and i haven't had alot of time to spend on my own costume.

the bloody lunitic
it started with the straight jacket. i stitched it from scratch out of some left over canvas from some halloween back drops i painted (i can post pic's if you like)
the original inspiration came from the movie 13 ghost's (and the jackel in particular)
while his was far more degraded than mine, i went to great lengths to age the fabric.
its been stained with tea, coffee, chili, soy sause, red wine and just about every other item in the kitchen that leaves stains. i used power tools, sand paper and multiple washes to give it that lived in look. :)

the mask was some 9oz veg tanned leather. i used hot water and a 2 liter pop bottle to give it shape (let it dry over the bottle)
Image

the slippers where also from scratch. believe it or not, they where made from 2" pure white fun fur. (real light and fluffy) they got the same treatment as the jacket.

pants are an old set of pj's also aged.

i needed a shrink to talk my way through the evening.
i crafted myself an old looking iv cart. its actually the base of my desk chair and a curtain rod stained to match.
Image
the old glass iv jar is a cheap lamp. i'm gonna throw in some red mylar, water and a couple gold fish. :)
the severed head is a purchased piece. it wasn't the most convincing, so i added a wig, and wrapped it in plastic (to be filled with blood the night of)
Image

so heres the costume al ready to be splattered with red paint and varnished

and after the chaos.

well that my costume. hope i didn't bore ya too much. :)

Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

thx, usually i spend alittle more time/money on my costumes.

i'm actually bummed. this year i broke a 20year tradition. usually my friends and i do not even think about our costumes till the week of.

this is the first year i started early. i just had way too much on my plate.
i had to finish this mural for a local photographer

and this skull mural (donated as a raffle prize for the buck and doe) we'll also take all our guests photo's in front of it.

this was my first mosaic, and it took a lot longer than expected and was all on top of my heavy work schedual.

kinda bummed about the tradition but i'm sure i'll get over it. :)
