Sadly, I live in country that does not celebrate Halloween, but as a Jack O fan I have decided that this year little matters like that will not get in my way.
I'm throuwing a Birthday/Halloween party the first week of November, and even though its far away - I would like to get some ideas for a costume.
Please remeber that I have practicaly nowhere to buy accessories or costumes and that I will probably will have to make it by myself.
I hope that some of my past costumes will give someone else good ideas for the upcoming Halloween: Lady Liberty, A fallen angel, A sea witch, USA, the negative of me (as a very good girl in everyday life that included a lot of iron and leather)...
Any help will be appriciated
Enjoy you Halloween for those of us who can't

Greetings Mystery,
It is so nice to hear that people in different places that don't usually celebrate Halloween take an interest as Halloween is such a wonderful holiday. It provides so a cool what to indulge in the dark side a bit but in a good and healthy way....
I am very much a snaill mail person in my real life. I have 8 penpals that stretch around the globe 4 or my snail mail friends I have had for over 5 years and are very close. All 7 of the 8 pen pals haven't heard of Halloween or didn't rreally know what the holiday was but of course I couldn't help myself and send much information their way print offs stories of my personal experiences photos and stuff.
I have to say personally I always make my own costumes. Use clothing stores, food coloring, spray paint its amazing the stuff you can find for a costume at a hardware store or others just improvise. With this much time I am sure you can come up with something. I got My 11 year old daughter a puffy black and grey dress with one of those mesh things under the skirt to puff it up at a used clothing store for $4. Anyway She is going to sread it up a bit, get some black wings or make them out of cardboard and black feathers (found at a craft shop), black boots, black fishnet stockings and be the angel of death. If makeup is required lipsticks from the regular drug store can be uses as blood (it might just be a little more expensive.... look for the cheap stuff) and foundation could pale you up a bit. Just a thought.

I've looked in the site and there are some interesting ideas there, but I'm looking for something with a bit of a "dramatic effect".
I would love to hear some more ideas

One year my husband dressed as a dead confederate officer (we ARE from Virgina, after all) and I dressed as his southern belle. An old bridesmaid's dress served nicely for my "gown", but it was tattered, shredded, and covered in dust and dirt. I used my prosthetic "throat slash" to give me an obviuos cause of death, and applied general Zombie makeup complete with peeling flesh to the rest of my face. Long hair wig, and over the wig a grey tulle veil that went down to my knees (so I was pretty much covered in it) to which I had hot-glued spider webbing, spiders, dead leaves and twigs, a rat, etc...you know, fresh-from-the grave-sorts-of-stuff. Must say, it looked awesome. We were quite a coupls, and it was very inexpensive. (At least mine was, we rented his costume from a party store.)
That's a very cool idea :)

I liked it. Now I'm thinking where to get a gown-like dress to trash (I haven't been a bridesmaid and the only dress I have that might do the trick is too damn new for that).
I have dressed as a Zombie ones with torn black clothes and as much white make-up I could find (I have a long dark brown hair that is very usefull for that sort of thing) but this is a cool idea. I'm sure you and you husband made quite an impression.
As far as I know my boyfriend is thinking of dressing as a cow or the cow-ripper and in that case, I was thinking about something like the Cowgirl from hell...
What do you think?
The reason I want to decide soon is that I have a friend in Canada that will come to visit next week and she can buy me things for the costume there....
Once again, MHooch & Pennywise, thanks a lot for all your help.

Mystery duck, absolutely, if your partner is going to be a cow, a zombie/cowgirl idea is FABULOUS!! Cowboy hat, checkered shirt, vest, holsters with 6-guns, chaps would be a great touch if you can find them. And then of course, the awfulest Zombie makeup that you can come up with. Liquid latex makes great peeling skin, you just spead it on, let it dry, then peel back about half so that it is still attached to your face, but hanging off. A little dark red on the torn off place adds a nice touch. What a fun twist on a "traditional" Zombie costume!! Have fun with it!!
