For some ungodly reason, I couldn't get onto Halloween.com last night...

Anyway, I watched one of my all-time favorites Disney's Haunted Mansion

Tonight, I'm watching The Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew Meet Dracula

So far the Horror flicks we watched for October are "Apollo 18" and "Let me in" although prior to Halloween season we did get into a bit of a Nightmare on Elm Street Kick.

When we get more time, we'll probably watch some more horror flicks. I borrowed a couple movies from the neighbors I want to watch. :)

Of course, Trick R Treat will be one of them, it's become a Halloween tradition to watch that one thanks to this Forum. I probably never would have heard of it if not for Halloween.com/forums. :D

I learned about Trick or Treat here, too. My husband and I both find it very amusing, in a dark-campy way.

Haunted Mansion is also one of our faves, and our disc was scratched, so we had to buy a new one this year.

A day or so ago I watched a DVD we had bought without knowing anything about it. It was called Under the Skin, I believe, with Scarlett Johanson (not sure I spelled her name right). It was kind of weird and depressing, not really scary to us. About an alien who assumed the form of a beautiful woman who seduces men to become food for the aliens, I guess. Then she starts to have more human feelings, and seems to begin to question her existence. SJ did a good acting job in it (and it has some nudity if that sort of thing either appeals to you, or not), but I don't think I care to see it twice.

Oh, yesterday I pulled out Poltergeist, which I always enjoy (the original, of course).

"They're heeeeeere!"

Yep I remember that one. Used to creep me out when I was a kid. I might have to watch it again sometime to see if I'd still get scared or not. At my age though I don't know if I can take the special effects seriously or not. Haha.

I'm not crazy about nudity, although I don't let it ruin the movie for me if there is some in it. I'd still watch it though for the fact that it sounds interesting. Reminds me of V actually a TV series about these aliens who come to Earth claiming peace only to have a hidden agenda, the new version not the older version, before it got cancelled.

I only remember watching Haunted Mansion once. It's the one with Eddie Murphy right? I'll have to watch it again sometime.

It's pretty cool that we can learn about good movies on here, especially ones we might never have heard of otherwise.

I watch Poltergeist several times a year, it has held up quite well for a movie that is a third of a century old.

Some movies just should not be remade. There's no way the new Poltergeist could touch the original. I do like Sam Rockwell though, so we'll see next July.

Poltergeist does hold up well. I was thinking about that as I watched it. I think it may be because they do such a good job depicting the family before things really get going, and then, it builds from a seemingly innocuous beginning.

I think the scenes with the little boy do a good job of tapping into children's nightmares.

Haunted Mansion is just fun. Yeah, it is the one with Eddie Murphy. It might be too silly for some people. Ghostbusters is a much better-written comedy, but then, the writers of Haunted Mansion were trying to fit in the various scenes of the Disney ride. We get a kick out of it.

By the way hippieluvn I love your avatar. It's awesome. :D

Wish I had time for a horrorthon, but we did get a few new movies this year that we plan to screen.

Maybe I'll get some ideas from your list. :D

Let Me In and Apollo 18 came in a 4-disc horror collection, it also comes with The Crazies and Pandorum so we'll probably screen those sometime soon.

Also borrowed The Reaping and Bats from the neighbors.

If all else we'll dig through some other movies to watch too. :D

There are two versions of Let Me In, one of them called Let the Right One In. I can't remember now which title we have, but we have the original Scandinavian movie with subtitles. I kinda wish I could get hold of the American version, which my older son saw and said it scared the bejesus out of him. My husband and I did not find the original version particularly scary, but it was interesting.
