Did you know that a lot of today's serial killers lived in one of those bland suburbs? Geoffry Dalmer, Theadore Bundy, Dennis Raider (BTK Killer) John Wayne Gacy, just to name a few.

Ted Bundy was very handsome, intelligent and charming. Geoffry Dalmer was a very unimposing little man who worked in a chocolate factory, and all of them lived in very normal looking housing.

Go figure.

The point I was making was that some of the most evil, prolific killers of our time were seemingly very "normal" people, who lived "normal" lives in "normal" houses, very much like the house I lived in with my younger sister and parents in New Lenox. A very dreary, bland, middle class suburbanite sub division house complete with an attached garage. Very modernistic, very prim and proper, very typical American and very "normal." The boredom of living in that hosue and that town litteraly drove me to subastance abuse!

The Nuns at St. Christina's school had a very wise old saying, that goes something like this: "An idle mind is the devil's work shop" That sounds like many other cliches you mayhear, but it's the truth. Boredom can only lead to evil.

Sounds like a plank Adrien.

McPhantom, you rais some interesting points, but it's my opinion, and I don't have any scientific evidence to base this on, that boredom can be as deadly as any of the tortures you described. It takes a lot longer to die, but your mind and body litteraly athropies down to noghint.

My parents made the decision to move to New Lenox, Ill because they were scared that my younger sister and I would get involved with drugs. There was a lot of that, and underage drinking going on at one particular corner on the street where we lived. That had my mother worried. There was also a lot of fear of criminal elements moving in, and in short, it was fear that motovated them.

That was the worst decision they ever made. Their motives were pure. Their hearts were in the right place, but they had a very old fashioned outlook on a lot of things. It was my mother's beleif that boredom was how you kept kids out of trouble. The mind dulling boredom of that house in New Lenox actualy drove me to the very thing she feared most.

To this very day, two of my brothers and my younger sister STILL live in that horrid, boredom ridden hell hole. I love them dearly, but I CAN'T STAND to visit them for any length of time, because the housing, the town, the subdivision and the general look of the place is just more then I can handle.

They say that stress causes all kinds of ailments and helth problems that can kill you. Boredom causes anxiety, anxiety can be a major factor in heart desease, ulcers and other stress related ailments. Boredom kills, and those mind dulling, boring suburbs are bad for your health IMHO.

all of this is true... i can NOT stand being bored... really... and i don't mean like 'oh its saturday i don't have anyting to do' i'm talking 'man, its been half a year and i haven't done anything with my life so far this year' i need hobbies. i crave activities and trouble shooting and creativity, competition, ect ect
