Muslems for the most part are decent, intelligent people who have suffered termendously because of what individuals like Osama Bin Laden did. The reaso why they came to this country to begin with was to get away from all the fanaticism that really has nothing to do with the Koran, and many Muslems realize that.

I was reading the Koran last year--didn't get all the way through it, but got about 3/4s of the way. It is a strangely organized book, not at all what I expected. I had thought it would read like the Old Testament, but it doesn't. And certainly there are passages of it that appear to support violence against the non-believers.

On the whole, though, I do think most Muslims probably want to live peaceful lives, just because I think that's what most people want. And I imagine that many of those who have immigrated here were doing so in hopes that they could escape the violence of the Middle East. I just wish that those who sincerely want to live in peace felt more responsibility to help stop the terrorism.

I'm not offended, Spooky. I have two brothers who feel the same way, but I have personaly worked with quite a few Arab Americans who came to this country because they wanted to escape the violence of their home countries and the accompanying fanaticism. Most of these people I know are very devout Muslems, and they are also the most non violent and peaceful people I knew. Many a Christian could learn from them.

I have to agree with your comment, until muslims as a whole start speaking out and saying its wrong, then no-one will be convinced. I haven't seem any doing that to date.

I'm sorry, but I can't understand how any religion whose most important prophet says stuff like this...:

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household."

...can be considered a religion of peace. I really think it's high time that all followers of this divisive prophet rise up and condemn this sort of violence.

You know, I'd hate to be held responsible for the actions of Joe Stalin, just because we're both atheists. We shouldn't make PumpkinMan answer for the Spanish Inquisition. I highly doubt the vast majority of Christians feel they are tacitly endorsing Tim McVeigh every time they forget to begin each sentence with "I condemn Tim McVeigh and....". The fact is that most Muslims do condemn violent acts of terrorism. But they aren't responsible for what other crazy people do. I hold Islam in no higher regard than I do Christianity, or Wicca, or Satanism, or Mormonism, or Judaism. Any religion that says things like "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak" in its holy book should have no place in our modern, enlightened society, but in this country people are free to believe and worship as they choose. We also have to answer for our own actions, not the actions of other people who might read the very same line in the very same book and take it a completely different way.

you're Tim McVeigh theory holds no water because he wasnt part of an organized religious terror syndicate, he was a lone nut job, and if you paid attention you'd see that every one condemns his actions in public.......I dont see that from the Muslim community about their organized terror loving brothers.

Maybe if your ties with the Muslim community were tighter, I might consider what you see as relevant. But they aren't, so I don't. Because what you "see" about the Muslim community on FOX News is as accurate as a sundial at night in a snowstorm. And my analogy is still valid, because it really doesn't matter whether the crazies are lone wolves or organizing themselves into groups. Nonviolent Muslims are no more responsible for the actions of the crazy ones than nonviolent Christians are for the actions of crazy Christians. I thought you conservatives were all about personal responsibility. What makes you think you are in any position to tell anybody else they have to be responsible for a group of crazies that they have nothing to do with? The connection between nonviolent Muslims and crazies motivated by Islamic fanaticism is a link that exists only in your mind, because you can't understand how two different people can follow the same basic religion but take it in two totally different directions. You call them brothers, but they are only siblings in your mind. In reality, peaceful Muslims are appalled at violent acts of terrorism, and condemn it every chance they get. Just because you don't see something doesn't mean it isn't there; it just means you aren't paying attention. Or that you don't know how to Google "Muslims Condemn Terrorism".

And aside from closing Gitmo, rescinding the Bush tax breaks for high income earners, crafting a healthcare bill with a public option and without an individual mandate, and having a more open and accountable government, President Obama always keeps his campaign promises.
