I have over 300, 000 dollars in my SURS retirement account, and I seriously doubt I will ever be able to fully retire. I think the whole idea of being fully retired is a privilage that only the seriously rich will ever be able to afford. I will likely still get my pension, but I'll have to work to suppliment it, because by the time inflation hits me, it won't be enough to live on.

That's what happened to my father. The company he worked for, FMC Corporation, had a policy of forced retirement at age 65. This was in 1974. He retired, and almost imediately after words, the ecconomy tanked, we had double didgit inflation, gas shot up to a dollar a gallen from what it was previously, which was 50 cents a gallen, and our standard of living, diminished to the point that we didn't even have enough to eat at times. My mother had to help pay the bills by working as a teacher. Unfortunately she taught in the Catholic school system so the pay was pretty lousy. There were no benifits, and all she had to retire on was a lousy 300 or 400 bucks a month form Social Security. Luckily she was able to move in with my younger sister until she died in Jan of 97,
