Re: Sarah Palin
Hey OC,
Same to me, my mom had me when she was 17-1/2 years old! She was at high school when she got pregnant of me in December, and she graduated there in June 1975 - Then I was born in September!
Well, truth is... good thing that my grandparents didn't get mad enough with my mom because they were very glad to have me!

Yeah my mom was still in high school as well. She still has the outfit I wore to her graduation. It was a little sailor suit thing I must've been adorable...ha

Re: Sarah Palin
I myself am not a hypocrite pretending to be "old school" with old-time values and then running a household where a child of mine gets pregnant before she's even out of high school. I would in fact be understanding of a child of mine becoming a young parent, but again, that's because I'm up to date, not hiding behind some "I'm such a good ol' girl'" baloney stance. I mean really. It's one or the other, folks. (And likewise, ahem, I wouldn't send other people's sons and daughters somewhere to die when I myself had ducked out of any actual service and had managed to keep my own children out of the service; and I wouldn't espouse "good values" when I spent my entire teenage and young adulthood driving drunk and putting junk up my nose...ahem...anyone seeing a pattern here with the GOP party?) It is that irony that I was pointing out, that and others. I can't believe the entire point of my post was invisible.
I am not judging her on her daughter getting pregnant. I was not the one bringing up the fact that this woman is "so old school"...on the same breath as stating that the girl's 17-year-old got pregnant right under her nose. I am pointing out the irony in saying one would vote for her for being old-school...and her having a pregnant 17-year-old. Seriously, did no one get that?
I in fact was a young single mother. However...I was not a hypocrite. Therein lies the difference.
And by the way, I was NEVER a Hillary supporter. In fact, if Hillary had been named, I'd have had a dilemma on my hands. And I never called Palin "the anti-Hillary"...I don't care how she compares to Hillary...I don't care if she's like Hillary, or not like Hillary. She's not qualified and that's that. And yes. I AM HORRIBLY offended that the hope is that all of us wimmin-folks will line up in droves because we would take just ANYTHING with a vagina. How crazy. I can't wait for this all to backfire. This move makes it more obvious than ever that the GOP thinks of women as, well, brainless.
Amid all the arguing about how solid young single mothers can be, did anyone else actually see this irony? How about the other hypocracies I pointed out relating to the current GOP Commander in Chimp as well as McCain and Ms. Vote-For-Me,-I-Have-A-Vagina-Too? And are you voting for these two (with your eyes closed) anyway? Then go for it. Again...I knew this thread would be a disaster one way or another and I wish I'd never read it. I think of this site as "for fun" but this thread will in all likelihood drive me from this site and onto one of the other Halloween sites.

Re: Sarah Palin
Well by saying that "why didn't she teach her daughter BETTER than to...etc." it sounded like judging to me. If that was not your intention then many apologies.
And if anything it would be the opposite. Up until not too long ago young women that got married and had children at 17, or even younger, were the norm. That's how things were. So I don't see anything wrong with the term old-school that Nos used. I'm not saying I'd want my teenage daughter to go start a family instead of going to college, but teenage pregnancy happens. It's happened since the dawn of man and it'll keep happening. I just don't feel it's reflection of how a child was or wasn't raised.
I don't see why we can't have a discussion. Politics are a part of everyone's lives. We have to learn to discuss instead of argue. I meant no offense nor was I trying to start an argument Melanie. But I will state my point of view as I would like you to. It's still a fun site

Re: Sarah Palin
The fact that she has a 17 year old thats pregnant isn't a mark against her at all. It's real life. And the girl is keeping the child, so kudo's. As far as shooting animals, hell yeah. She can survive if she needs to. Not a bad mark against her.

Re: Sarah Palin
John McCain just celebrated his 72nd birthday. If elected, he'd be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience", here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.
Huh?
Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:
1. She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.
2. Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape and incest.
3. She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for President in 2000.
4. She thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.
5. She doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.
6.She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species - she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.
7. How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.
OK, please take a moment to forward this message to your friends and family.

Re: Sarah Palin
They've got my vote as well. I loved her speech. She had a lot of great lines. I think she's going to take the Ron Paul stance of just having common sense and stating things the way they are.
The whole night was good. Huckabee impressed me quite a bit as well. "I'm not a Republican because I'm rich. I'm a Republican because I don't want to be poor waiting for the government to bail me out". Loved it.

I like it straight and direct. None of this right and wrong is relative junk.

Re: Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin????????? I thought this was a Halloween discussion board. Anyway, I think she's the coolest chick in the race ever. I am a middle class mom who does relate to her and she does represent my ideals, plus she's got balls. She's a true feminist for TODAY, not the 60's and 70's. Rip me if you want but there are a lot of us out here.

I'm sorry to those I offended. I went overboard--it's a very emotional subject for me. I'm only posting political stuff on political boards now!
