Re: break in
VanHelsing, I don't think I can improve on wh at BoogyMan said. The gun grabbers will tell you any lie to further their agenda. Hitler's regeim outlawed gun ownership of it's citizens, and look where that lead. The "bad guy" took over the entire country. For 12 horrid years, the "bad guys" WERE the German government, and they not only murdered millions of innocent people, but they plunged the entire world into a horrible war.
As for my personal preferance, I own a single shot 20 guage, a pump action Winchester 12 guage with interchangable barels. One is for buck shot the other is for deer slugs, a 22 caliber revolver which is loaded and inside the phonograph of my antique stereo system, and a 357 Magnum which is loaded and right under my pillow. The 357 is a 6 shoter double action revolver. I keep the one chamber that's right up by the hammer empty so the gun won't accidently discharge if it's dropped or something. The other 5 chamters are loaded and ready to rock. I think 5 hits from a 357 magnum with hollow point fragmentation bullets will pretty much ruin the day of any 'bad guy' who enters my house.

Re: break in
I used to keep my loaded gun in a computer book on a high shelf in my bedroom. High shelf in case I forgot about it when one of my friends brought their kids over. Right now it's sitting on the shelf in the closet because I haven't rebuilt my bookshelf yet.
I figure hide it in plain sight concealed by something the crooks wouldn't be interested in, and which allows me to grab it quickly. Probably should tape the hollowed out pages shut so they don't open in case the bad guys ransack the bookshelf looking for something hidden amongst the the books?

Re: break in
mine was hidden with some other stuff but if he had looked harder he would have found it, he went through that shelf too so I dont know how how missed that and the bright, gold decorative dagger my wife owns, but luckily he did and it wasnt touched, but I have since hidden it where I can get to it and most people would never look. I also keep it holstered in my old Police safety holster so he'd have a hell of a time getting it out even if he had found it.

That's a pretty innovative way to hide a gun, NeverMore. When the little ones come over to my house, they are not allowed up into my bedroom, but I think I'll do a better job of hiding my gun on party days, anyway. Perhaps I'll put it into something lockable.
BoogyMan, this is not a "political" debate between Obama supporters vs Romney supporters. This is a discussion about our right to defend ourselvs againt home invaders.

Re: break in
Mike,
If you are not paying attention, gun control is a political issue. Just look at the reaction whenever there is a shooting. I did not mention anything about any candidate. And the last discussion was not about either candidate. It was about principle and direction of the country. There is more to politics than the two major parties. There are lots of every day issues that have become politicized, some legitimately some not.
I was not trying to inject politics here even though it is a political issue. And I was making a joke. Lighten up.

Spooky, do you have bars on the windows and doors? That's the first thing after I got broken into. Haven't had a problem since. Bad guys tend to pass up houses that are secured.

Just saw this on a blog I visit. This seemed like as good a place to post it as any. Everyone should watch it, unfortunately. A sign of the times we live in.

That's exactly the reason why I'm so lucky to be living where I am. We do get our usual dose of petty crime, theft and burgleries as well as an ocassional marijuana arrest, but nothing really horible, except for one major incident that involved the jilted wife of the guy who owned the local video store. The video store had a living area, where the owner and his child lived. Appearantly she waited until it was late at night and they were asleep, then she snuck into the store and set the place on fire. The guy suffered smoke inhilation but got out okay. His child, however, died of smoke inhilation.
