Osama bin Laden is DEAD!
Just heads up... Osama bin Laden has been killed by a U.S. military strike and his body is in U.S. possession.
It's about time! Is it strange that I see mass applause outside the White House?

A really stunning announcement. We heard just before bedtime last night.
I don't think it will stop the war on terror, unfortunately. Or rather, I don't think the terrorists will stop going after us. But it's good to know he's been sent to the hot place.

I know that, but I don't think we will end the war because Osama's number 2 top man is now a leader and he wanted to continue the war with us!

nope, you're right, it doesnt really change anything about the war it's self or how we go about our business day to day, we still need to be aware and watch for things, but it sure is a boost and a shot in the arm for all of the people that have fought for the last 10 years and those of us who have suffered one way or another, and the rest of us.Murfreesboro wrote:A really stunning announcement. I'm not an Obama supporter but you have to give it to him, with the procedures set in place by his successor and Obama continuing to use those resources, they got him.
of course we know Obama is up for reelection soon and his poll numbers are down and he needed something to boost his numbers, but lets hope that had nothing to do with this. But I have no doubt we could have got him a lot sooner if we had stopped giving Pakistan a heads a up of our actions because we pretty much know they were informing Osama and he kept getting away.
Anyway, this is still far from over but we hit them hard yesterday!!

Change we can believe in, right there. This is a day for all Americans to celebrate, but let's not forget for a second that this is a result of a tangible, documented change in American policy regarding the war on terrorism and our priorities in that effort. Let me be utterly blunt; it took Barack Obama two years to do what George W. Bush could not do in two terms.

Oh yes it does. It says to the next guy in line that if you want to be head of Al Qaeda, you are going to be a big concern of the American president. He's going to be thinking about you day and night, he's going to put a big fat bulls-eye on your back, and he isn't going to stop thinking about you until a Navy Seal puts a bullet in your eye and dumps your body into the Arabian Sea. It makes the job as head of Al Qaeda seem a lot less appealing.
Long overdue justice brought about by competent leadership. Today America shows the world that we've still got it!!!

Bush should have stopped informing the Packies.......spookymufu wrote:no doubt we could have got him a lot sooner if we had stopped giving Pakistan a heads a up of our actions because we pretty much know they were informing Osama and he kept getting away.
but like I said, Obama should get the props for it, it happened on his watch (with the help of Bush's security policies) and I have no problems with that, hopefully the next person in office in 2013 will continue to show progress like this.

I have no doubt President Obama will indeed continue with the progress he began in his first term.Spookymufu wrote: hopefully the next person in office in 2013 will continue to show progress like this.

Halloween wraps fear in innocence,
As though it were a slightly sour sweet.
Let terror, then, be turned into a treat...

Re: Osama bin Laden is DEAD!
the war isnt over, just one chapter of the war, we will continue to fight, and with it now being obvious Pakistan wasnt helping us and were hiding Osama, we need to seriously re-evaluate our "relationship" with that country and we NEED to stop the billions we give them in aid for fighting terrorist because obviously, they arent using it for that.Pumpkin_Man wrote: Well at least with Bin Laden gone, we can put an end to the present military actins in Aphganistan and Iraque.

Re: Osama bin Laden is DEAD!
I agree that we aren't done with the wars in Afghanistan & Iraq just because bin Laden is gone. I wish I knew exactly when we might be able to consider ourselves "done" with the War on Terror.
When I was a girl, there was a lot of fighting in Northern Ireland. I am not sure what the Irish terrorists wanted, but something happened finally to make that stop. How does this type of conflict ever end?
There is a Muslim man in our community, a college prof I know slightly, who has said publicly that the Muslims are also glad bin Laden is gone, that he had hurt them and damaged the reputation of law-abiding Muslims in the US. Is there some way the more moderate Muslim community could be brought to bear on the terrorists, I wonder? My high-school-aged son has Muslim friends, and he says they have told him they are afraid to speak out against terrorism, that the terrorists operate like the Mafia.
