I'm still working on more props and a bigger stage display for my party, but here's what I've done so far:
sarcophagus
I made a back-drop and this is going to go in a corner of the party room for guests to take pictures in their costumes:
I'm going to have a small tree there as well and maybe some vases in the scene. Don't mind the wonky set up. I just put that up to take a picture. On the day, I'll get everything nice and pretty
I have a couple more things ready to be painted this weekend. more to come.

That's great!
I went to see the Tut exhibit and bought a bagful of junk at the museum gift shop.
Maybe I'll dress up as an Egyptian this year?

My mom has a neat Egyptian costume.
I always did like Egyptian mythology and whatnot.
Maybe you should throw in some Bastet statues. They would go along with the theme, and a lot of Bastets also consist of Black Cats...which would also go along with Halloween in a way.

Great setup so far! I'm really diggin' the backdrop. You made that, you say?! Nicely done!
Not sure where you want to go with your theme or what all you have planned... but I did see in this year's Martha Stewart Halloween magazine she had a really killer looking mummy costume.... made me consider using Egypt as a theme at some point in the future.
Can't wait to see what else you have! =)

i made a sarcophagus one year and my husband hid in it to scare the kids, it went down really well. It also scared the pants of a friend of ours who went into our attic to sort some electrics out as that's where it's stored lol

I'd love to be cleopatra, nefertiti or a pharaoh for the comming halloween, so I'll have to look for a costume soon.
I've always been interested in the pharaohs, pyramids and the egyptian legends/stories... It's captivating!

Sorry, I sort of dropped the ball on this. Once into October I got pretty busy and just never had time to get back. There's a full write up of the Halloween party with more pictures here. the
Egyptian theme Halloween party. Below I have a few more prop pictures but on the Halloween Party page I have some Egyptian theme party games and some photos of the snacks and treats. Check here for a step-by-step of
how to make a sarcophagus, I have a full explanation of the steps there.
I made a large backdrop (12m) with a doorway. I made 2 Anubis statues to go on either side of the doorway.
I also made some little scrolls to hang all around the room:
The corner picture spot: pyramid tomb backdrop, sarcophagus, a small tree and bones of intruders
While we were playing a group game, I had a friend steal the sarcophagus and run around the outside to put it in the stage scene. Here's the stage: pyramid tomb backdrop, two columns, 2 plants, 2 Anubis statues, a doorway, 3 cobras, and a sarcophagus
I barely had time to snap those pictures and I didn't really work out the best lighting possibilities. There were some nice yellow spot lights, that would have made for better pictures. Oh well.

We change themes every year. I do this for my English school in Japan and it has grown year after year. Each year it seems to get more and more involved. But to answer the question, Yes! but not Egyptian ...
2009 -
Medieval Party
2008 - Wife had a baby on Nov.1
(We had the party but we weren't sure if we would, so not much effort that year)
2007 - Spider Lord and Mistress - kids were our pets
