I had a teacher at school who was fired because some hunters found a box buried near his house full of kiddie porn.

ahhhhh how creepy are these people? i mean for real!!
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

I'm sorry, but I just can't feel sorry for these people. Sx offenders and others like them are the very reason why some communities have totaly done away with the 'trick or treat' tradition all together. This world is dangerous enough. So if it was up to me, sx offenders would not even be allowed to put up any external Halloween decoratiosn, or have anything in their place of residence that could even be remotely interesting to a child.

I have 3 kids. My oldest is 18 and they have never been ToTing. This may sound wierd, but this is the reason I have a huge Halloween party every year. The kids have all of their friends and familys over. We average 150-300 each year. On Halloween we go to our church's Fall party. This way we get to have our "creepy" fun at home and our safe candy fun at church. They do not feel like they have missed anything, opposite, they have 2 partys!

Too many wierdos out there.

I love the earlier phrase. " Do the crime, Post the sign."
Got a friend who's brother in law just was convicted of sleeping with his 13 year old step-daughter. It seemed to be a good stable family. You never know.
When it comes to my kids. I trust no one.
I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright,

Let's complicate things a bit. Not everyone who has kiddie porn on their computer is a bad guy...

Better check your computers carefully or your reputation could be ruined.

I knew that hackers used compromised PCs to store files on but it never occurred to me til I read that article how much it could mess up your life. Most people don't even know how to show hidden files and folders so they would never know the illegal files are there. The only clue would be if they noticed an unusual amount of internet traffic coming to and from their computer like that guy did.

Sorry, I don't know how to show hidden files on a Mac but if I used one I'd sure learn how. I suggest you find out how to do so and take a look at your file system. Especially if other people use your system. They could stumble on some unacceptable files that someone else hid there and then blame you.

The Mac OS is based on Unix these days isn't it? If you know how to use the command prompt you could try typing ls -a in each directory to show the hidden files. It works in Linux.

I just read about that at school today! I am writing about it as homework.

How do I find out if I've been infected?

Go to Google and do a search for 'online virus scan'. Run two or more of them on your whole system. Stick with only the well known companies, McAffee, Symantec, ESET, Kaspersky, Panda, F-Secure. Make sure you are on the correct website before you download any active-x controls. If these scanners find something, follow directions to try to get rid of the problem.

The reason I say online virus scan is because some viruses can disable or compromise the scanner on your computer. If you don't see your program updating virus definitions, it's possible it's been turned off.

If you want to view your hidden files and folders, open up Windows Explorer, on the File menu go to Tools, then 'Folder Options'. Click on the View tab. Under 'Hidden files and folders' choose Show. Do the opposite to hide the files again.

With files and folders showing, go back to Windows Explorer and look in all your folders for anything that looks suspicious. Careful what you delete! The file may be needed to make Windows or a program run.

In this case, you're looking for a directory that you know neither you or a program on your computer created. The directory would be full of images or videos, though it's possible the hacker could have renamed them to further disguise them.

My problem is not knowing which files are deletable and which files I can dump! :(
I am so lame with tech know-how.
