Switching from cable to satellite, Mike? How are you going to watch the Walking Dead? It's such a bummer when you have too cut back on things you enjoy as the economy gets worse. Everyone wants to pass the rising costs on to the little guy... us!

Everybody stay away from Witchy until she cools down. Don't want any stray spells coming your way.

NeverMore, I'm peeved at MediaCom because they had the nerve to jack up my rates for the same tenous at best service. The way I'm doing it is that A T & T is going to take over my land line phone service and internet service this Saturday. I'm going to keep MediaCom cable tv until December, because in order to get Satlite tv, I have to have a tech come out to the house, and for that I have to take time off from work. Since October, November and a good part of December are very busy for me, I won't have time for that until I'm on Christmas Vacation. And why wouldn't I be able to watch "Walking Dead" on Satelite. If it's carried on cable, it should be carried on Satelite, too. And if I don't like the options offered me by the Satelite providers, I can go with A T & T for cable tv, too.

But MediaCom has been jerking me around, and charging me through the nose for the privilage, so it's time to say enough is enough.

When you said satellite Mike I made the assumption you meant Dish TV. They very famously made the decision to drop AMC from their network. The network that airs Walking Dead and other popular shows. If it is Dish TV you are going with you may want to look into the recent complaints against them.

A friend of mine dropped Cox cable and signed up for Dish after being told by the sales rep that she would be able to continue watching Padres baseball games. Well, guess what? When they hooked it up, no games. The rep totally lied to her.

Apparently they were close to settling a broadcast deal with the team so the guy just assumed that they would soon start airing the games. They still haven't settled. As of now, with 8 more games left in the season, Dish TV subscribers have not been able to watch a single game. Oh yeah, my friend had them come back the next week and remove the equipment.

Witchy I'm glad my wife is totally into it I think we end up fueling each other and going more into it than if we weren't together. You make sure he wears an awesome costume.

Mike Nevermore is right on this one definitely check into the shows that are important to you before you make any switch. I personally have been waiting for Verizon Fios to come to my area.

Will do, he wore a Hell's Kitty costume a couple of years ago, I still laugh when I think about. If i find a pic I'll post it later. Hell I might make him wear again this year, just for laughs!!

You are very lucky she is into as much as you are. If my hubby had to pick me or his 63 Anglia, I think we would be in a dead heat, well I might come out a little better off.

NeverMore and DemonicDuck, I wont be able to change tv services until Christmas vacation, so I have plenty of time to look into it. A lot of people who have both Direct Tv and Dish have raved about it, and others have raved against it. What I do know is MediaCom is screwing me on the monthly bill, and the service is often intermittent, some times it stays blacked out all together for hours and even days, my phone service has an even worse track record for dropped calls then a cheap cell phone, and to add to the headache, when the power goes out, I have no phone at all. My internet service, which MediaCom boasted was the fastest available is roueintly taking for ever to get to the web sites I want to visit. It constandly goes down, and it's haveing serious issues with my brouser. Internet Explorer. I've been booted off while in the middle of writing an e-mail, or when I was reading something important on line. Finaly, to add insult to injury, they charge me $194 and some change for that qu ality of service, and when I try to contact their customer reps, I get put on hold for 20 solid minutes, and when some one finaly does pick up, it's 'we're so sorry, but it's due to weather conditions, or it's due to the instalation of new equipment." Cop out after cop out after cop out. I was paying 184 a month when I was having all these problems. When they jacked it up to 194 a month, that was the straw that broke the proverbial camels back.

You should definitely change services then if you are losing service that frequently. I just meant to make sure you know that your important shows are included in your new service. Additionally if you are using Internet Explorer please make sure it is always up to date as the older versions are full of vulnerabilities to let baddies in. I do suggest switching to Mozilla's Firefox or Google's Chrome. I use Chrome it is a no nonsense fast browser. Good luck in your switch.

Man DD! I keep trying to tell people that. My buddy just yesterday told me he never updates Windows. I tried to explain to him that hackers are always trying to find ways to get into your computers and that those updates are Microsoft's way of patching the holes that they find. Sometimes the updates change features or cause new problems but better safe than sorry.

Mike, I agree with DD. Firefox or Chrome. IE gets a lot of attention from the hackers since it's so widely used. Versions 8 & 9 are much safer though.

Also, here's another angle to approach your TV situation from. If you can get a good internet connection you could stop paying for the cable TV altogether. You can find plenty to watch online these days. Some for free. Regular Hulu carries the last couple episodes of lots of current shows for free. You just have to watch them before they expire.

Hulu Plus and Netflix are only $8 a month each, for the shows and movies you can't find free. If there's something you absolutely have to see you can purchase it from iTunes or Amazon. You don't watch sports but for people who do they can purchase online viewing for those too. You can basically build your own tailor made TV network. Not to mention you can watch your shows from other locations or on portable devices.

I know it's a bit techy and more work than just turning on cable but this is the way the younger crowd is starting to go. My roommate watches everything online. She bought a bluray player that is internet enabled so she can watch it all one her big azz TV. Some stuff she still has to connect her laptop to the TV, mostly stuff she downloads from the online stores. This is where a networked media server would come in handy.

Makes me wonder if this is why cable companies are being such buttheads. They are watching their old business model fade away as the Internet takes over. Hope they learn from the music industry and embrace the technology instead of going down fighting.

I read a quote about IE somewhere online "Browsing Internet Explorer is like having s** with a prostitute without a condom"(not a family friendly quote but accurate)

As for Nevermore's outline that is a valid option I know a few people who don't have tv services at all. Of course that is only a valid option if your internet is reliable and fast. Nothing worse then waiting for your show to buffer(load enough of the video to play)

I started a new thread for computer security issues. Figured it would be a good way to help keep us all up to date.

Now, back on topic... my roommate and I just decided, we're gonna decorate like we did last year, do some light crafts, obviously carve a bunch of pumpkins, sit down on the night and watch some movies. She still hasn't seen 'Trick r Treat'!!!!! Says it looks like it would be too scary. Whaaaaa! Hee hee hee! Perfect!

Good idea Nevermore. It is hard for even people who are into computer to stay up to date with pertinent info let alone other people who just do it for browsing and such.

Looks like you have a good night planed. Hopefully the movie(I haven't seen it either) scares the pants off her(figuratively of course)

Also I just rechecked the weather now it seems it may just be cloudy this weekend. Yay for outdoor decorating!!!!
