I had an aunt who use to make pumpkin pie every Thanksgiving from scratch, and it was AWESOME.
And she didn't even use canned pumpkin. She used fresh pumpkins that were for pie baking, and did it all from scratch. And then she would make her own whipped cream flavored with nut meg.
My mouth STILL waters when I think of that. Her pumpkin pies were EVEN BETTER then the ones you can get at Baker's Square.

Mike, did your aunt prepare the whole Thanksgiving meal, or just the pies?
See, I could understand going to that trouble to make the pie from scratch, if that were all you were doing. But I cook the whole meal myself, so buying a frozen pumpkin pie is the way to go for me.

Re: Favorite Halloween Treat
Murf, Thanksgiving was allways a group effort at Thanksgiving. My aunt just did pies and other baked deserts, My mom made the stuffing, stuffed the turkey and made the Krispie Cookies, and various other aunts made the corn, potatos, green bean casserol, and a whole host of other goodies. When it's my turn to host Thanksgiving, my sister inlaw makes the stuffing and stuffs the turkey, and I go and pick it up and put it in the oven to bake. I also make a desert item, and the candied yams.
