I always like learning about different holidays associated with different cultures and how they differ and celebrate them.
Too bad the article left out O-bon, a three day death celebration in Japan:

I think since the original Halloween festival originated by the celtic traditions it's no wonder it has similar traditions in the UK:

I enjoyed skimming all those articles.
My older son is heading to Medellin, Columbia, Oct. 29-Nov. 7, for an academic conference where he will be presenting a talk. Although he adores to travel (has been to Europe three times), and is thrilled to be going to South America, he is somewhat bummed about missing Halloween at home. I am hoping they do something to observe the holiday there, but I'm not sure they do. From my brief research, I don't think they do Day of the Dead there. I've told him to have some Halloween fun this weekend before he leaves.
