LEDs for lighting
I used LEDs taped to batteries to light the carvings in the attached pictures below. Got the idea of using LEDs for the eyes instead of xmas lights from this Instructables article.
Well... I have some red LEDs left so I was thinking of making a circular frame out of wire and connecting it to a couple helium balloons then attaching some of these throwies to the wire. Release it over a crowd of trick or treaters tonight and watch the news as reports of a UFO come in. I love playing pranks on Halloween.

Re: LEDs for lighting
Yeah we use tons of LEDS for our haunts (home and pro haunts) and average about 600 LEDs per mailing actually. Leds are great for pretty much anything you can dream up, we use them mainly in LED prop eyes for blinking and non-blinking props and 3 eyed aliens.
We are currently working on a cool LED garden that will be featured in our Farmhouse Of Nightmares haunted attraction (pro haunt) coming in 2016. We are working to put LEDs on giant flowers and animated flower props. I'll post some pictures once we get more together on it if anyone wants to show you how it was done, or may just post a youtube vid on the topic if anyone is interested.

scream farm we'd love to see it! planning for 2016? that's dedication to a project there. I can't even commit to a movie on the weekends
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Might be possible to adapt this for a costume...
