It's cold enough outside that carved pumpkins around here keep for a good long while. The other trick Iheard was to put Vaseline on the carved edges and that will maintain it for awhile longer than without it.

I wait to carve mine until the day before Halloween but I do complex Universal Monster so they only last day or 2.

Probably will depend on if I have to work or not. But I often carve the pumpkin either the night before, or the day of Halloween.

Starting Oct 1st I have at least 1 carved jack o'lantern in the house at all times, and 3 or 4 on the 'big day' itself.

I generally carve mine the day before or the day of, because around here they can rot if the weather is still warm, as it often is in October.

They allways rot when they're inside the house. That's why I will have one for about a week, throw it out and carve a new one, keep that for a week and so on. Then on the night before Halloween I'll carve 3, or even 4 if I'm feeling extravagant, and put one out on the porch for the ToTers and the others keep me company while I watch horror movies, roast hot dogs in the fire place or play spooky music.
