Safest (and possibly coolest!) way to light your pumpkins...

..this Halloween! Last year, my neighbors had a very small fire on their front porch due to an overturned candle-lit pumpkin. (Everyone was fine! Thank goodness their 2 year old son was out TOT'ing with his daddy!) After doing a bit of sleuthing, I found the next best thing to classic candles- The Amazing Rainbow Pumpkin Light! These are wicked effects for your haunted house, and safe for the little ones (and relatively inexpensive as well!):

Oh yes I have seen things like this before. The store that sells my dept 56 village has battery operated candles that are about the sive of a votive and have a slight flicker to them to give it a realistic look. I think it is a great thing to use for pumpkins

Now that IS pretty cool! I'll have to get one. However I am more of the traditionalist, so I'll probably go for the flashing yellow one.
Thanks Wicked!!!

That's a great idea! I like that it comes with an AC adaptor, so you can plug it in and it won't cost you an arma nd a leg in batteries.
Thanks for sharing!

Wicked, those are an awesome concept, wow. I"ll keep my eyes open for similar type lights here, although I would only want ones that cause the orange glow, not the blue and green etc.
Thanks for sharing the link with us all

I haven't seen the ones that change color but I have purchased on at the dollar store that gives a strobe light effect.
I just bought some of those votives (fake with realistic flicker) at our dollars store this past week.

I purchased a strobe light thingy from a dollar store last year. It did not have the effect I thought it would I don't know why they call it a strobe. It just blinks and the battery died quickly. I had cheap batteries, but even still, they died out after an hour or so.
So just a heads up.

One think that I always do is line the inside of my JOL with tin foil just in case the candle decides to go crazy. Never had a problem to date.

I think the Idea was good so I bought it.
But for me it does not give off enough light.
Hence not enough GLOW.
We want our carving to Glow in the night

Has anyone tried using glowsticks in their pumpkins?? I was considering doing this with the outdoor JOLs this year just in case it rains (which, as I'm in England, it almost certainly will)

Never tried the glow sticks, I'm thinking it would/could work.
But those damn things ain't cheap
For my real Kins I still do the candles.
For the Fake ins, I throw (2) Night lights in em each.
(2) x-mas bulbs will give ya a nice Bright Glow.

I use those rainbow things for spot lights. (I got a hack for them so you can mount them on a wall or ceiling and aim them where you please.) But for my pumpkin, I have a flicker cord, that makes a lightbulb flicker like a candle.
I'm also trying to create another type that is bright, yet gives the same flickering effect.
If you check out my website, (click my signature below) you'll find out how to convert the rainbow light to a wall or ceiling light source.

Last year I bought a changing color light at the family dollar. I worked but it wasn't very bright. I bet this kind is better. It was really cool when it turned purple!
