I like every kind of decoration! But when it comes to decorating my own house, I like a tiny mixture - heavy on the traditional. Most of my stuff is probably considered cute, but I like the spooky as well.
When it comes to other houses - bring on the creativity!!! I love seeing all kinds of decorations in peoples yards and homes.

I'm not opposed to bloody decorations or body parts, it is just the stuff that is over the top. I've never really seen any of the most gruesome decorations in person, I'm just aware of them from magazines and decoration websites. I understand that some people enjoy this kind of stuff and have every right to express themselves, just as I have the same right to not enjoy it and choose to look the other way. That doesn't make me a bad person. I just get concerned that some of it is "pornographic" and can be damaging to children if they were to come in contact with it. That is my main problem with the over the top gore stuff that some people like.

The whole thing for me is to inspire awe.
Not scare them. Make them just open their mouths and GAPE.
Skeltons hanging from trees with decomposing flesh. The year I'm adding a stock and pillory.
A lab set up that features dry ice and this GREEN stuff we drink and offer to the kids..they just back away SLOWLY...The lab coats have chuncks of green, yellow, and vivid blue on the coat, NOT blood...there's a coffin on the front lawn with CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON inside, a baby buggy based on a MAD magazine cover that features an eyes glowing in the dark tyke with shrunken heads instead of a mobile in front of him...
You want to UNSETTLE...not totally freak or make them barf on the lawn...(this is seen as bad form in the neighbourhood...)

I like middle of the road stuff. It's not gory but the real little kids get spooked when they come TOTing at my house. Just the black lights, flying ghosts and witches. Its just downright fun! We had a kid last year that was coming to our Halloween party who wouldn't come up to the door until I turned the real light on, lol. He's 4 and he got freaked! Once he got inside and got into the spirit of things, he ended up loving it! I agree...Its the UNSETTLING feeling thats the best!

FINALLY got the lock done for the stocks we're putting up.
It HAD to LOOK old, you know...big and rounded and THICK with bolts coming out and a key hole.
So I got this plastic rounded mess kit..with FOUR LITTLE BUBBLES ON THE BOTTOM FOR TRACTION. Bored TWO holes into the top, and stuck a curved piece of THICK plastic through those two holes for the padlock bolt. Carved a key hole in the middle of those bubbles..
Now I just paint it grey and black for rust and we're in business..
