Please plant them in mid-April, water them and see if they do work! Where do you live?ilovemichaelmyers wrote:Well, I was going to plant them last year but never got the chance but will try again.

Nope, my pumpkins have not sprouted yet. I haven't gotten around to planting them as of yet, and it appears that it's going to be so busy, I may not have time until later in April.

Re: Pumpkin growers, now is the prime time to begin!!!
Ooooo. I love this topic! I am completely in LOVE with plants and have tons of plans for this year's growing season. Here is what I have on my list for this year:
Devil's Claws
Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkin Variety
Small Sugar Pumpkin Variety
Table Queen Acorn Squash
Several Varieties of Ornamental Gourds
Other veggies (peppers, tomatoes, peas, beans, and sunflowers)
It's my first attempt at growing pumpkins/squash here in the high desert. I am worried about the extreme heat, but a neighbor successfully grew pumpkins in his back yard, so I am sure I can too!
In addition to all these, I have a good sized collection of carnivorous plants. Yes, plants that eat flesh. I've been growing for about 5 years now and I can sure say they are satan's botanical wonders. If you guys would like pictures I have tons to share! =) I also have plenty of pictures of the Devil's Claws, which I grow pretty vigorously.
I will certainly post here with updates on my attempts to grow pumpkins!
Good luck to all here who try! =)

Well, I guess it's just as well I didn't get around to planting my pumpkins yet. It got down to 30 degrees last night, and it's already 35 degrees right now.
I am hoping to hav them planted after Easter, but before it's actualy May.

Re: Pumpkin growers, now is the prime time to begin!!!
My pumpkins did horrible last year, so this year I tried something different. I took a bunch of rotting pumpkins my older brother had left over from Halloween and chucked them into what I hope will be my pumpkin patch. I smashed them up a bit, and now I'll just let nature take it's course. After last year's failure, I'm just not willing to put any more effort into it than that.

My problem isn't getting them to grow. My problem is that the rabbits and the squirls make a toss slad of them before they get too much bigger then straw berries. This year if I can swing it, I am going to put up one of those temporary plastic fences. A lot of gardners say that they do a pretty good job of keeping out most of the critters.
