Speaking of dolls, I allways wanted a "Gi Joe" in the worst way. All of my buddies had them, and we had a blast playing with them. The only thing, is if you refered to "Gi Joe" as a "doll," you might get a fist in the jaw. G I Joe was not a "doll." He was an "action figure." It was a well known "fact" back when I was a kid that girls played with dolls, and boys played with action figures.

My husband wanted a GI Joe, too, but his mom wouldn't let him have one. She thought it was too violent. Wouldn't let him play with guns either. So the first thing he did when he was old enough was join the Army.

He bought GI Joes for our boys, but they weren't interested in them. Older son wanted only to role play and do stuff outside. Younger son was into Legos.

I think the terminology is still used as well. But my niece never uses any of it. Everything to her, whether it is a stuffed animal, a doll, or an action figure is a 'baby' simply because it's smaller than her

My parents bought me plenty of toy guns and bows & arrows. I got my first real gun and a real bow & arrow for my 13th Birthday. It was a Hrrington & Richardson, single-shot 20 guage shot gun. I don't remember too much about the bow, as I allways stunk at shooting with a bow & arrow. I was pretty handy with a gun, though.

BUT, for some reason they just didn't go in for G I Joes. Perhaps when it was Christmas time or my Birthday, I often wanted other toys more, and didn't bother to hint or ask for them, but I had hours of fun playing with my buddies who had them.

I had the old 12" GIJoes from the 70's, and I also had the submarine and the helicopter and a bunch of outfits and different guns and stuff, then they went to the smaller 3 3/4" figures and the dumb cartoons and so on...

I actualy liked the cartoons. I was an adult when they came out, but I thought they were pretty neat. My nephew loved them.

My buddy also had the 12 inch figures, and a whole bunch of military hardware that came with it. It seems that every year there was a brand new G. I. Joe gadget that he just had to have.

I never understand why the fear for Chucky. He is a horror doll but it seem to be easy to defeat a little doll with ease.

LOL! My daughter was absolutely traumatized by a Chucky movie she saw when she was 4 or 5 (it was on TV, I guess). She was never able to play with human-like dolls after that, only stuffed toys (and some Barbies, which were miniature and not scary to her).

Maybe girls, who play with dolls, are more likely to be spooked by the idea of a doll that comes to life. Well, and the ventriloquist's dummies can be kinda weird and spooky, too, maybe to anyone.
