Hey Churches, just leave Halloween alone!

Post by Nostalgiascape » Wed Oct 03, 2012 12:38 am

The holiday has a history that is what it is. The last time I checked my soul has not been condemned nor my house burdened because I enjoy Halloween. Sit back, relax, and let those who believe come to you to celebrate with you at Christmas time. 2 months later Then we can all be and let be.
The dark night beckons. Bear us your soul, it whispers. Expose your wicked delights. Join the rest of us on the wind. The dark night beckons and we answer. Sailing into the shadows.

Hey churches! Please for the love of all that is good and holy, leave gays, science, schools, holidays, books, legislation and freaking everything alone! You're really stickin in my craw! Thanks.

It's funny that you mention churches and Halloween... since Halloween started out a fall harvest festival and ended up being "absorbed" by the Catholic church along with "All Souls Day" on November 1st. IMO, you can't have All Souls without Halloween because they're so... linked.

RDM- I'm deeply amused that you would use the epithet "good and holy" when telling religions to back off. Don't read into my comment-- your use of the word "holy" just made me smile is all.

I couldn't agree more, Nos. I think the effort to eliminate Halloween is awful. That being said, I do feel the need to point out not all churches are trying to ban it. Some, most certainly, but not all.
We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.

There is a move to eliminate more than just Halloween. And it isn't by the christian churches. If things continue to go the way they are, you won't recognize your country.

Btw, it is not the christians that is forcing people to pay for abortions or contraceptive, even if they don't believe in it. It is not Christianity that slaughters gays just because they are gay. Christians for the most part are fighting for everyone's right to be free.

Google Sharia Law and then get back to me how bad Christianity is. Sharia law is already gaining a foothold in this country.

I was simply trying to point out that not all churches, or even a majority, are against Halloween. I'm sorry if I offended you in some way.

Scarecrow, your post was not offensive at all. You seem to be thinking rationally. My point is that there is a religion that is bent on world domination and it isn't Christianity. Not all churches in a given faith are the same either. Westboro Baptist Church does not represent every christian.. Some churches are even pushing that social justice nonsense.

In other words, Jack, my post was not directed towards you.

Church freedoms are amazing and true that some will always use church or religious to use as a platform of intolerance but that makes the USA special in my opinion especially coming from another country where things are much worst.

Halloween, All Saints Day (Nov 1st) and All Souls Day (Nov 2nd) is a 3 day observance in the Catholic Church that includes Halloween. It it not nor has it ever been the "devils holiday," because even when it wasn't a Catholic observance, it was most certainly a pegan celebration, and pegans didn't even know who the devil was prior to the rise of Christianity. All Saints Day is also a Holy Day of Obligation, too, which means that all Catholics are REQUIRED to attend Mass that day.

As for the various Christian demoninations who denounce Halloween as being the "devils holiday,' they just don'g get it. Halloween is the evening that is celebrated before all those in Heaven are comemorated and celebrated on All Saints Day. And I do agree. It is quite irksom to have Evangelicas and others leaving anti Halloween propaganda in my mail box.

Google Sharia Law and then get back to me how bad Christianity is. Sharia law is already gaining a foothold in this country.

Google is fine and dandy, but maybe you should try reading the actual Quran before you make sweeping statements like the above. Or maybe find some other source for your "facts" than Fox News. I could list hundreds of atrocities committed throughout history in the name of "God", and that list wouldn't even include the special modern "Christian" practices such as the treatment of Muslim women in Serbian rape camps, Fundamentalist Christian Hell Houses, "Pray the Gay Away Counseling" (which, btw, was just illegalized in California for use on teens), the religious right opposition to stem cell research that could improve life for millions, etc. ad infinitum... But unless you're willing to research further than what a few wingnuts on the internet or the boob tube have to say, how are you going to know what's true?

Every religion has it's own group of extremists. You can moan and groan about how bad Sharia law is, but what you're really afraid of is the Muslim version of "God Hates Fags". As far as I'm concerned, the best Christians are the ones who practice what they believe without pushing their ideas on others. So I can heartily second Nostalgiascape's sentiments...."Hey Churches, just leave Halloween alone!"

Lastly, I'd like to apologize to anyone who I've offended with this post, although I won't apologize for the content. I haven't posted here since my earlier political outburst, but I did enjoy reading all of your ideas about the holiday I love more than any other. A lot of it makes me smile ("It's Dudeism, isn't it?!?" omg I nearly fell out of my chair =) and I want to thank you all for that. But I seriously can't abide narrow minded people such as quoted at the beginning of this post. So I think it's best I move on and not rock your wonderfully spooky boat.

Happy Halloween all! Best of the season to you all!

Mmmm... well said Tee. I was thinking the same thing but I'm not eloquent enough to put in into vocabularic symbols.

Mac, my biggest problem with the Dudinites is that they only celebrate Halloween during October, while the rest of us? It's a lifestyle.

I believe you mentioned once you wanted to go back. Are you still planning to that?
