Favorite Halloween monster
It can be anything! Vampires, witches, ghosts, werewolves, zombies, even a scary movie character.

My niece! When she was younger, if you tried getting near her candy, she would growl at you and try to bite. Seriously? Vampires.

Re: Favorite Halloween monster
Good, old-fashioned zombies, and not those new dangled ones that run.
In my day they shuffled and you were happy that they did.
In my day they shuffled and you were happy that they did.
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

Tough choice! I love stories about witches, vampires, and ghosts. Hard to choose among those. I guess I love witches because those stories suggest the possibility of magic in the everyday world, ghosts because of what they suggest about life after death, and vampires when I want a good scare.

I feel contractually obliged to say scarecrows, though werewolves tie for first.
We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.

Old fashioned, cartoon ghosts. You know, the type that look like a floating sheet with circular, dark eyes/mouth commonly accompanied with the sound effect "Booooooooooooo."
That, along with a scarecrow, seem to symbolize the Holiday's creepiness, while maintaining a fun, whimsical spirit.

Re: Favorite Halloween monster
I like werewolves... the natural born ones... not the ones that use magic belts or anything. The ones in "Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within" computer adventure game are yummy. I hate the Hollywood ones.
... they're kinda like the Hollywood version of zombies-- the mindless, shuffling beasts. Strangely, I've been reading a lot about Haitian zombies lately (for my paranormal blog) and I'm a little grumbly about how Hollywood has taken zombi lore and run away with it.

Re: Favorite Halloween monster
Jadewik, I agree with you 100% on zombies. The only zombie movie I ever enjoyed was Serpent and the Rainbow as it actually dealt with Haitian voodoo costumes. It was still somewhat Hollywood-ized, but they made the effort. I would recommend it if you haven't seen it.
