Re: Can You Feel It?
my neighbor across and down the road has a small 20 acre farm. once the watermelons are gone, the pumpkins will be planted! some are already in his back fields
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

I thought pumpkins had to be planted no later then around mid May, but I guess you learn something every day. I have had no luck with pumpkins at all, indoor or outdoor.

It probably depends on the part of the country--Alabama's season will be different than Illinois'--but I would think the different varieties specify time from bloom to harvest on the seed packets. You would have to time it right in order to have your pumpkins ripened by Halloween.

Yesterday I spotted a few unmistakeably red leaves on a dogwood tree in our neighborhood. Autumn is coming!

IT still may be August, but even here in Illinois, you can see a gradual change in color on some of the foliage. Fall is definately in the air here, too.
As far as growing pumpkins is concerned, you are correct. The further South you go, the longer the growing season. I have had NO LUCK what ever growing pumpkins, either indoors or outdoors.

Re: Can You Feel It?
actually I am late... I visited him yesterday and his back field will be the only field this year with pumpkins.. they were put in a month ago. the watermelon patches were being tilled as I drove up... he said that he'd be giving that front field a break this fall. I'm not positive why but he didn't want to plant pumpkins in the same soil so soon after the watermelon.....

My condolences Adrian.
Tis is a pic of one of the many reasons I love redwood trees.
In autumn they turn rusty colored.
This was taken this morning.

I see I'm going to have to start forum stalking you for photos. You have some impressive skills.
We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.

Re: Can You Feel It?
Can I feel it? CAN I FEEL IT!?! Only thing I feel is the scorching heat that never seems to end. I feel like a candle stuck in a microwave. Top it off, I finally decide to turn on the A/C and the $%$! thing don't work. And the repair guy is on vacation and won't be back for another week. As soon as it cools down, and I can think straight, I'm going to start working on my diabolical scheme to extinguish the sun. Then it can be Halloween all the time. BWAA HA HA HAAA!!!

Re: Can You Feel It?
I put up fall garlands, spooky candle holders, oncluding the skull I got from Mac, a couple of JOLs, then went to the store and bought some orange yellow & red flowers.
I cranked up the a/c (sorry Nevermore) and tonight I'm going to watch a spooky movie and have a hot bowl of home made beef stew.
...and preetend its fall.

Re: Can You Feel It?
Watched L.A. Story last night. The part about the weather was funny. Not the best movie ever, but entertaining.

Andy, ever see the movie L.A. Story? Steve Martin plays a weatherman in L.A. and decides to pre-tape the weekend report so he can do something else. Things go wrong. The movie is pretty funny to those who know SoCal culture.

Re: Can You Feel It?
The parody of Southern California culture is what I found so great about that movie. I've watched it with people who aren't from here and they just didn't get it. It's also pretty dated now, as evidenced by the whole freeway shooting part. And Woody Harrelson was so young! Steve looks the same. Has he always had white hair? I've actually seen people order like that during the brunch scene. I've also seen people who are not from here freak out when we get a little shaker. We feel the building moving, stop and think 'earthquake, cool' and go on and continue what we're doing. The whole freeway sign thing, I don't get. I've stopped many times and tried to talk to one and I've never had one talk back.

Very true. It is pretty funny when you are driving and there is a quake and you don't even know it.
Yes, definitely dated, and I didn't know when Steve Martin's hair turned white, but searched and they said late 20s and early 30s! He is 68 now, but was around 46 when they made that movie!
