Do Australians celebrate Halloween on Oct. 31, or do they do it on Walpurgisnacht (April 30)? I just can't imagine celebrating Halloween in the spring.

Then again, I have a hard time imagining Christmas as a beach holiday, too.

I have a hard time imagining that, too, but it's a fact. The seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are just the opposite as they are here. While I was freezing my zombeezee off replacing the battery in my car last Christmas Eve, the Australians were celebrating Christmas with beach parties, barbecues and out door picnics. I don't know about Halloween, though. Halloween is pretty well steeped in Autumn tradition, so I imagine they do celebrate it on Walpurgisnacht, but I couldn't say for sure. Now Christmas is tied to the Winter Solsice, which is the shortest day of the year, then the days start getting longer and the "light" more or less comes back. However, Australia was settled by the British, and Christmas every December 25th was an integral part of their culture. Halloween, no so much.
