Isn't it obvious why? It is because you consistently post here and not there.Murfreesboro wrote:the Christmas forums didn't seem to be as interesting as this one, that's all.

Re: New Member Introduction
Well I think it's more to do with the fact that collaboratively we post more here than there. I love Christmas but Halloween sure is a lot more fun!
Yep that's exactly why Christmas was set in winter to try and convert the pagans. Then of course Easter was there to try and convert the Pagans as well from their holiday Ostera. History is fun and interesting about certain things.

Mau, I think Easter happens much closer to the events it commemorates. After all, we know Jesus died in a year when Passover fell on a Friday, and we know the time frame because Pontius Pilate is mentioned in the Gospels. The man who did the Bethlehem Star DVD believes he has figured out exactly when Jesus was crucified, and he thinks it was (our equivalent of) April 3, A.D. 33. Good Friday this year falls on April 3. There was fascinating stuff going on with the stars at the time of the Crucifixion as well, including a blood moon (lunar eclipse), which is mentioned in the book of Acts.
That's not to say that there weren't plenty of pagan observances/celebrations surrounding the birth of spring, but Easter is fixed much more closely to its actual occurrence, just because it is tied so closely to the Jewish festival of Passover. It is the Christian Passover.
It's true that the word "Easter" comes from some pagan goddess or celebration, but not all European languages use that term. In French it is Paques, which means Passover.

You're in charge of the Christmas forums too Halloweencom? What is your account name on there?
I can try to log in under my old account again but I can't guarantee anything. My account on there is "SnowMau."
Edit: I tried it. Somehow I managed to get in!
