The big bowl was for home and the small one for my brother and his girlfriend.

All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

Re: Coloring Eggs
It's great to see such brightly colored eggs.

Re: Coloring Eggs
After the dreary days of winter it's a pleasure to give the world a burst of color.

Re: Coloring Eggs
I never thought of using a Revere bowl as an Easter basket. Classy!
However, I do put Christmas balls into one in December. I bought the ornaments at a dollar store, so I have no sentimental attachment to them. But they're pretty against the silver bowl.

Re: Coloring Eggs
I buy them for next to nothing at thrift stores.
Every now and then an engraved reproduction of the original shows up and I will snag it no matter how many I have.
Sorry for the tarnish, I haven't polished in a while.

Re: Coloring Eggs
So beautiful! I have never seen one like that.
I need to start shopping the thrift stores.
This part of the country is supposed to be great for antiquing, but I've never felt I had the disposable income for that.

Here's the history of the bowl.
https://collections.mfa.org/objects/390 ... 20patriots.
I have also collected the authorized reproduction coffee set, also in the MFAB collection.
I'm still on the lookout for a couple of pieces, but happy with the ones that I have.

Re: Coloring Eggs
Thanks for that history. And the coffee pot service is beautiful.
I suppose you are familiar with Replacements, Ltd in North Carolina? They are the best place on earth to find discontinued patterns of china and sterling, and they have tons of jewelry and decorative items similar to things I've seen you display. I have used them many times.

Yes I have.
I too have used them for a few, hard to find pieces
Sadly, the only part of the tea service they carried was sterling (mine are plate) and I couldn't afford the $16k price tag.

Re: Coloring Eggs
Yes, sterling can be pricey. They are great for place settings, though. It is prohibitively expensive to buy sterling flatware new, but they get their stuff from estate sales, and you can actually afford it.
If there's a particular piece you're looking for, you can ask them to keep a watch out for it, and they'll let you know if it comes in.

There's a documentary about them on YouTube.
I love companies that literally started in their garage.

I've watched maybe ten minutes so far. What a massive warehouse they have, and how organized they have to be! They seem genuinely to appreciate their workers, which is nice to hear.
