I like the new Avatar, is that a pic of you in custome :?:
Thanks but no, it is a pic of the Crimson Ghost from the serial of the same name, the band Misfits use it for their logo.
These foundementalists are so ignorant.
And there is the anti-Christian sentiment I knew would soon follow once this thread go started. Of course, I'm not exactly sure what a foundamentalist is...but that's cool. A Christian is never more blessed than when attacked for their faith, so thanks. :)

You can't blame any one Faith for an individuals Beliefs. It doesn't matter what Faith you look at, they are all comprised of HUMAN BEINGS, and none of us are without flaws. All Religons are made up of people the good the bad and the ugly NO MATTER WHAT FAITH, so if your going to point the finger at anyone, it can only be the particular individual who is offending you with their beliefs, views, Comments etc.

Dr.Strange, I like your comment " A Christian is never more blessed then when attacked for their faith" so true!

I really just wish that people would stop with the Anti-Christian sentiments, and look inside themselves first, or directly at the person offending them, rather then grouping people into flocks, it's like saying just because one person of any Faith is a murder, does that make all the people of that Faith murders :?: :?: I would hope people think deeper that :!:

Doc, I agree with DOD, your suggestion is an excellent way to look at any negative remarks about Christianity.

I think the subject of this thread was a legitmate one, we just all need to be very careful not to insult others or their faith. If my posts did so, I apologize. It was not my intention. I was simply discussing the orgin of the Holiday we all love.

As I mentioned, I am a practicing Roman Catholic who also loves Halloween. :D
Because once you cross that bridge, my friend, the ghost is through, his power ends.

I also hope I wasn't offending anyone; I certainly didn't intend to. And I beg to differ with the idea that all fundamentalists are ignorant. Certainly, there are the ignorant and educated in any group so it's a pretty done deal that some fundamentalists are ignorant, just like some of any other bunch of people... but all fundamentalists are entitled to their beliefs, same as anyone else. Welcome to America. And by the way, not all fundamentalists hold the same beliefs as all other fundamentalists. Welcome to the concept of individuality.
Act well your part; there all the honour lies.

*takes out an 11-foot pole and pokes the thread*

... I didn't want to touch this topic with a 10=foot pole.

There are two topics I try not to get involved in because people (in general) are so passionate about them that it's hard to make much headway. Those topics are politics and religion... and more often than not, someone chooses to be offended... or two stubborn people butt heads and figureatively start writing names in the snow.

I like to think the negative feelings some people have towards Halloween is less of a religion thing and more of an overzealous belief that Halloween is "evil". In either case... to each their own... just let me celebate my Halloween!

I don't quite understand or agree with this statement. The true meaning of Christmas is absolutely religious. The name of the holiday is self evident "Christ" Mas. Even if you are trying to say it was a pagan holiday first, that too would make it religous...You are correct though that December 25 was also a pagan holiday that the Roman Empire used to celebrate the birth of Christ. The reason being, it would have made the conversion of millions of people easier if they had similar holiday celebrations. Also, no one knows the actual birth date of Jesus Christ. So I see no harm in choosing a date upon which to celebrate his birth. But I digress,....we know take you back to Halloween....

Doc, no crapping on Christians here. I am one. BTW, I like the new Avatar, is that a pic of you in custome :?:
Well, by that I meant more so, its not religious as in its not a "rule" that only Christians should celebrate it and to where someone should not be told that they‘re celebrating it wrong or how/if they should or shouldn’t do it. And to me, there is no true meaning, it means something different to everyone and the same can be said about Halloween.

Just to let everyone know... I've been watching this thread very closely and I still haven't found my moment to respond.
There were two thing I was taught, growing up, to never talk about: Politics or Religion. And through my years, I've found that whenever I talk about either, I only piss people off... So, I was taught well.
I thing holidays, like Halloween can be enjoyed secularly as much as religiously, for whatever reason.
I think we all need to just calm our horses on this and get back to what it was that brought us all her to start with.

Since all if this is brought up and if anyone feels the need to know, I endorse any religon that brings light and goodness to the world and condemn those religions that only bring darkness.

AND, I am TOTALLY for SMALLER Government and LESS taxes.
I hope I've made myself clear enough. And that's really all I have to say about this, right now

I love Halloween as much as anyone. I am a Christian and have been for many years. I think when people start trying to force their beliefs on others or condemn others for their beliefs that's when that person is wrong. It is our own personal beliefs and traditions that make us each an individual.

A few of you have said you dislike talking about religion and politics but I think you are forgetting the third topic never to discuss in general public....

...and that of course is the Great Pumpkin. As long as we can stay clear of G.P. bashing we should be okay. I suppose I just wince everytime I read a thread entitled "Christians and....." because invariably it goes down a certain path leading to "and they're all simpleminded, ignorant, bigots." And yet it has become refreshing to find that here it only slightly veered in that direction, and really only by one person's comments.

I always find those types of questions to be loaded because the average person could easily tell you why some Christians would have a problem with whatever the thread happens to be about, in this case Halloween. Ultimately it was just a vehilce for the person to introduce a line of conversation about those closeminded Christians. Again though, I must observe that has not been the case here.

To be honest, all one would have to do is look through the threads entitled, "Need prayers for..." to see that there must be a Christian portion of members here who are open and caring and ready to talk about one of their favorite holidays, which for Catholics is a religious day as we remember the souls in purgatory being prepared for their reward in the afterlife.

So anywho, Happy Halloween everyone!!

It matters little.
Halloween has won.
This year, over 80 % of America is giving out candy or pop or chips or something...
and over 90 % of kids are going trick or treating.
Most churches don't care...most Christians don't care..it's a night for kids and grown ups to dress up and whoop it up. A Vatican appointed exorcist in Rome is on record as saying it's all just fun and games...the biggest influence besides the Universal Monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Mummy) is Whatever Was Big at the Box Office this Sumer..So expect Spiderman, Shrek, Transfromers, Pirates, and probably Simpsons at the door...and the usual run of Disney princesses. Most Catholic schools have Halloween parties..even some of the fundamentalist conservative churches do their own HELL HOUSES in a sort of 'if you can't beat 'em join 'em' approach that allows them to show the dangers of drug abuse by replicating a crack den, stuff like that...( I personally find them a bit much...and stick to the tradiitional, more fun variety in the neighbourhood...)

what matters very little is if some people don't like the holiday, like Jack Chick and his little comics, or the guy who used to put angels from his Christmas display out, put on the Hallelujah chorus full bore on the speakers, and hand out post cards of St. Michael.
Now THAT was, in my son's opinion, the scariest place he was ever at...
There will always be folks who don't like everything..or anything..heck, CHRISTMAS wasn't celebrated in America in any large scale sense until folks were able to ditch the Puritans in the 1800's...so the idea of people enjoying themselves and having fun would probably be enough to send lots of killjoys into spasm mode...
But they are in a tiny number...not to worry...
