I do not think it ruins the fun that much. But it is totally inappropriate.

That was probably a dentist's house. I wouldn't mind advertising as long as it's attached to candy.

I don't mind a little public relations either as long as they don't totaly ruin the fun. A lot of stores and other business hand out TOT candy. But flyers advertising car dealerships? Tooth brushes? Key rings with logos on them? Give me a break! At least toss in a snickers bar or a bit sized reses peanut butter cup in with it.

I love pop corn balls, too, and my sister-inlaw makes the best I've ever eaten. However there's NOTHING worse then a sale pop corn ball.

My major 'pet peve' is when some one uses 'trick or treat' to preach his philosophy or sell products. Like I said, I don't have any problems with a little public relations as long as you don't spoil anyone's fun, but I think it's totaly assinine to give a 10-year-ole kid an aotomobile dealorship advertising flyer in his ToT bag. How many 10-year-olds do you know drive cars? Also, it's all fine and good if a dentist wants to promote good oral hygene, but does he have to use ToT to preach that sermon? Okay, if a dentist feels like he's betraying his occupation as a oral health care professional by handing out candy, then hand out little toys, or something that's fun.

It would behoove the dentist's business to hand out the most sugarfull treats out there. Maybe a 5 lb. bag of sugar, a spoon and a coupon to his practice.

That's one way to look at it, Rky. That would drum up a lot of business for the dentist and the diabetes specialists, too.

Maybe the car dealer could give out 'match box' cars as treats. Models that he's selling, along with his flyer.

I'll admit it, I am the daughter of a dentist and hand out toothbrushes on Halloween, but candy too. The kids around me must be what i call Pod-kids, since they walk down the driveway going " whoohoo i got a toothbrush yay"

Only one kid so far, in like i guess five or so years, has been normal and said "let's not go there, they give out toothbrushes."

when i had been tot I would have been like EWWW.

My worst thing i ever got was a religious cartoon thing that when i got home and showed my parents, they threw it away.

:? One year i got an apple, from an old man. A few years later i got a condom ( i was 16) and an off bran bag of non salted chips.
Do you wanna know why i use a knife? Guns are too quick.

The worst thing I got this year was a pencil from a lady who didn't speak at all. Rude and annoying.

I also went to this Jewish (he had Hebrew on his door) old dude's house at around 9:40 and he said "It's way too late, and the lights are off," when in fact, the lights were on behind thin curtains visible for everyone. I think I interrupted his happy time with his wife.

I went to a retired dentists house and he gave out Halloween themed Kit-Kat bars. So not all dentists give out toothbrushes.

A lot of dentists feel that giving out candy promots tooth decay, which is why they give oub items other then candy, but I still can't help that it's a bit nerdy and preachy to give out tooth brushes, though I think what Gypsiewitch and that retired dentist did was pretty cool. Handing out toothbrushes and something fun is a good way of not being nerdy or preachy.

The worst thing I ever got was when I was 10. I went up to their house, and this guy who looked like he had just gotten a lobotomy and escaped the asylum walks out and dumps his whole entire fog machine liquid jug into my bag thats was at least half way full of candy already.

The best thing i ever got TOTing, was someone was handing out new CDs and It just happened to Metallica's Reload. Apparently, he had just gotten fired that day from the record store he worked at, and had stolen the entire brand new box, of what was then just released, Metallica store inventory, and was handing it out as revenge. He was never caught and the store had to eat like $2,000 of cds.

Now, in my family, and my girlfriend and I still carry this tradition on, with many of our friends now as well, we got to our local Wal-Mart, Tops, Price Chopper and P&C and buy like 3 or 4 candy stands (the cardboard halloween themed ones) with all of the candy still in it, and set them outside with our decorations and the kids can chose any 3 of their liking and be happy. We counted one night, and we had over 250 kids in one night. That night we had decorated the inside and back yard and asked friend to help us haunt it. We made ($1.00 per person) over $500 that night.
