Favorite spooky TV series?
Of course there are the old standbys... Dark Shadows, Munsters, Adams Family, ect... but what is your favorite, more recent TV show that puts you in a Hallowe'en type of mood?
Of the shows I've watched... Buffy and Angel, of course. X-Files could be creepy at times. I also liked... really liked the Dead Zone series. Especially the first three seasons. Not necessarily scary or creepy but it had a supernatural overtone. The whole plotline with Greg Stilson bugged me but it was in keeping with the book.

For me, it's the X-Files. Every week is something different.

Vintage X-Files gave me the creeps so that's always a good one. Flukeman did it for me. Buffy, of course. The Gentlemen were genius. I've got three that may seem kinda out there though. Are You Afraid of the Dark? Seriously. I grew up with that darn show and it scared the <deleted> out of me! Tales from the Dark Side. Creeeeeeeepy. And for the win.... AMERICAN GOTHIC. Not spooky in the traditional sense but spooky enough for me.

Re: Favorite spooky TV series?
I haven't seen all these shows, because some of them are on cable channels we don't get. But The X-Files is probably my number one favorite creepy TV series. I remember when it was on the air, one critic remarked that it was the most "religious" series on TV. I kinda thought so, too, because it was about truth-seeking. I loved what to me seemed a romantic bond between Mulder & Scully--reminded me of Matthew Arnold's poem "Dover Beach," which ends with a couple of lines like, "Ah, love, let us be true to one another," because the world is all deceptive and unreliable. We have several seasons on DVD now, and I love to pull them out. Season 6 was the best, IMO.
I used to watch Are You Afraid of the Dark with my older child when he was little. He would sit in my lap to watch those shows. I enjoyed that series, too. Wish they would bring it back.
My daughter has loved Billy and Mandy. Not sure I'd call that one "creepy," but it amuses me very much, with its take on the Grim Reaper as a Jamaican dude who's far less scary than Mandy is.
I'm dating myself, but when I was about 13 I was one of those kids who raced home from school to see Dark Shadows in its original run on TV. That series will always have a fond place in my heart. There is no way to tell young people now how that hit us way back when. Back then, we had only three TV stations in my hometown, and daytime TV was either game shows or soap operas set in hospitals and courtrooms. Then, one day, we turned on the TV, and there was this creepy Gothic mansion and vampires! How cool was that?

Re: Favorite spooky TV series?
i guess the closest i can get to series would be Tales from the Crypt
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!
