Ah Westboro, what can possibly be said about them that hasn't already spewed forth from a demonically possessed little child?

there was a story a short while back where these fools were planning on protesting some vet funerals and someone in the town found out where they were permitted to protest, those people then set up in the same spot with a giant flag and signs and effectively block the Westboro Baptist Church protesters so they couldnt be seen and they gave up and left.......you should do that too jadewik

Good news is there are local people in town who have experience dealing with WBC. They have a plan to block the protests, so it shouldn't be an issue. It still upsets me though... everyone is using this as a platform for political grand-standing. It's ridiculous.

My heart and thoughts go out to the thousands of people killed and their families in Japan...the pics and news from there is just devastating and shocked/awed by the images I am seeing and the devastation of the Tsunami there. I don't have the words to express the sorrow and sympathy I feel...I just feel like praying and hoping for the best.

This is my first time posting to this topic, so I haven't been following all the ballyhoo, but something just occured to me that truely makes me very sad, not only today, but any day. I get sad and angry both, when they tear down some beautiful old building in the name of so called progress. One of Joliet's greatest and longest standing land marks was demolished to make way for a new-fangled type fo a building. This building was build in 1910, and it took them over a month to tear it down because of the sturdy way it was built. Solid bricks, about 2 feet thick. This building was also perported to be haunted, and was a very creepy looking old turn-of-the-century (previous century that is) building

Just goes to show you that the greedy will often stop at nothing to turn a proffit. We keep tearing down our History and pretty soon there will be no tangivle proof that we ever even had a History.

Oh no! Why did they have to tear down that building??? I think they should have left it alone! :( So what was the reason they had to tear it down? Are they planning to do a new building or what?

In a word, Yes. They want to put up a new "more progressive" type of a building. The building they tore down would have been perfect for what they wanted to use it for, too. It was a huge 5 story building that was the very first department store in Joliet Illinois.

Just like Ford's decision to discontinue the Mercury brand after 70 years, a bunch of young, ignorant business executives decided that "proress" was more important them preserving history. It's truely sad, and I hope I don't live to see the day that there will be no more tangible ties to our History.
