Douglas Firs are the best. They smell great, have a great shape, are green green, unlike a blue spruce; the needles aren't too soft like a white pine, nor too sharp like a blue spruce. Douglas Firs are the king of Christmas trees.

Halloween Vs. Christmas?
I know there are so many people currently fighting the Halloween vs. Christmas war.
Does anyone else fight this battle with their family? And/or with friends?
Please understand that it doesn't have to be a choice between holidays because everyone knows Halloween is the Winner!

It isn't so much Halloween vs Christmas, all though I have been acused of being inmature about my love of Halloween, but my family for some reason has decided that all of our most beloved TRADITIONS are not woth the effort they require. Christmas, especialy is hardest hit by this junk philosophy that they have embraced.
Take this discussion about artificial trees. It has allways been family TRADITION, and my own personal TRADITION to put up a real tree, and underneath it place a Nativity Scene. Now a days, I still carry on that TRADITION, but none of my siblings do. They all put up artificial trees. A couple of them even have built in lights, so they don't even bother putting strings fo lights on any more. Another TRADITION bites the dust. A Nativity Scene is considered "passe," and the entire bassis of the celebration of Christmas goes totaly the way of the proverbial dodo bird. It's truely sad, but there actualy was a time when all of us honored TRADITION at all times of the year, but especialy at Christmas time. In those days, Christmas was my favorite holiday of the year. There was also great anticipation when my father would put the Advent wreath together on the Saturday before the first Sunday of Advent. When we were little kids, Santa's "Elf" would ocassionaly leave "Elf Candy" under our pillows or in some other obvious place in the house, and then ring a little bell to signify that the "Elf" has paid us a visit.
BUT, that was then, and this is now. Of course, children are allways going to love Christmas most of all, but I still think Christmas was a whole lot more wonderful when TRADITION was upheld. It was a lot of work, and took a lot of effort to make it come together, but it was well worth it.

Halloween is my favorite hands down! I do like Thanksgiving and Christmas is great but I really don't like the fact that people think it's all about the gifts and it's not but I do like the jolly feeling too. My kids are into it and I hate spending tons of money on toys that end up lying on the floor or in the trash later in the year! This year, I have to be a bit more thrifty when it comes to gifts. I will probably make something for inlaws and parents, I would prefer myself to get something made by someone versus something someone just bought at a store.

I's with you there ILMM.
A box of home made cookies or yes, God help me, a well made fruitcake has anything store bought beat hands down.
I made a decoration years ago for my coworkers and friends that in retrospect was an abomination to all things Christmas-y, but to (most) of their credit I still see it on their trees each year.

Oh you guys do this early!
Halloween is my favorite holiday.
I haven't quite worked up the mood for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I'm working on it.

I'm inclined to call Halloween my favorite, although the candy at Christmas isn't bad either.
Two good things about Christmas-it's cold and dark.
Although I just tend to enjoy whatever holiday is in season. There's almost two months between the two holidays, so it's not really a competition.
I'll probably get in the mood by watching The Nightmare Before Christmas again.

Oh yeah that's perfect. I love that about Christmas. It gets dark really early, and it's usually freezing cold here.
It feels cozy with a warm fire and the lights on the tree lit and good music playing.
